If there is one hand bag that has too much scandal attached to it, it would probably be the Hermes Birkin handbag. We always thought that scandals and intrigues are only associated with celebrities but this handbag is a celebrity of its own right that there are many stories and scandals that evolved around it. This handbag had a colorful history and had been making head turns for quite some time now. This handbag has a sporty and casual look that is carried by many notable young celebrities. Some use it as a briefcase; others use it as casual as throwing in a change of shoes.
Perhaps one of the biggest scandals behind the Hermes Birkin bag came from the film director Andrew Litvack. According to his version of the story, Jane Birkin, the actress from which the bag was named after to, was called to Hermes in 1981.it was then that she received the first prototype. She thought it was free but as she was about to leave, she was asked if she had forgotten something. She then realized that they wanted her to pay for the handbag which was named after her. The director now claims that Birkin was eventually reimbursed and luckily gets a 10% discount on Hermes products.
Another scandal that involved the Hermes Birkin bag is when Martha Stewart was in for a trial. According to reports, Martha Stewart had used her well worn Hermes to court during 2004 on her insider trading trial. Many said that it had worked against her because it had affected the decisions of the jury. Experts say that the super expensive bag had not played well with a middle class jury. We may never know of this is a fact but still a scandal that involves the famous bag.
