I totally agree. Do you know how many people in this blog (yes! I am sure some of you are reading this!) are judging some bags as authentic and real by saying uneducated comments like "oh those bags have abnormal handle lengths etc". I bet majority of those irresponsible commentators never have a Birkin in their life before. Although I personally only have two (regular togo leather) and yes its photographed repeatedly by fashion bloggers or paparazzi here in NY at least I bought them with my own hard earned money. Also, people know me for me not from my Birkins. A little bit swayed there but fortunately my mother, aunts, grandmothers from both side of the family collect Birkin, Kelly in various leather (exotic and togo), sizes, and colors since as long as I can remember. They always told me that you can't judge a Birkin as authentic or not based on couple photographs or simply first glance. My mother showed me one of her old beaten up Birkin from the late 90's that is a regular visitor to the Hermes leather spa. Although at this point it looks very distorted and far from mint condition, it is obviously the very real thing. However I remember one time I was with her at Cipriani downtown and as I walked toward my mother I overheard a style amateur girl in her early 20s whispering to her friend "omg her bag looks so fake" as she pointed to my mother's bag. Luckily some people recognized who i am and it seems like she took her words back after she realized that. Nevertheless, that just goes to show. Just so you know people, even the ones with money or capability to obtain even the most expensive and rarest Birkin (yes in fact I am talking about the Himalayan or that raisin croc with diamonds size 30cm in display of the Paris store on September 2009-cause my aunt bought them with me) don't judge others. Sure we feel pity for them (beyond Birkin but also fake 2.55 or classic caviar Chanel bag) who feel the need to carry something that is not what it portrays to be to compensate for their lack of. Regardless, who are you to judge and be the critics? At least the girl that I saw in Cipriani only voiced her opinion as-a-matter-of-factly and simply. Besides, it is pretty understandable where she's coming from considering the condition of the oldie-but-goodie Birkin she saw. At least, she wasn't trying to be a smart*ss "oh look the bag is so supple and not structured bla bla it must be a knockoff". Geez people, just so you know, the actual togo leather, if you even ever seen one, is meant to be supple, impeccably smooth, and not very structured. It's what make Togo Birkin special, I should know because two of them are hanging out in my closet now. I don't apologize if what I wrote has a sour tone to it, but someone who has respect for authentic Birkin, including the owners of this blog should be able to relate to what I wrote. Regards,

judging by the unusual length of the handles, I presume the bag is a knock-off...
ReplyDeleteThat is a shoulder Birkin. It comes with longer handles.
